About Firehills Consulting
Firehills is a consulting and technology firm that works with both private and public sector clients on strategy, organisational design and leadership. We are moving forward with our growth plans and with that we need new talent and skills to deliver.
What we believe
The way most firms approach these issues is very traditional and – we believe – doesn't really respond to the forces that drive the economy. We believe that the economy is complex, which means it is subject to emergent patterns shaped by dynamic relationships that exist between firms, customers, regulators and others. Firehills helps companies and public sector organisations understand this complexity in order to make better decisions for growth and impact. We do this in two ways: through consulting projects, and through technology. Our flagship product, Furze, is an AI platform that helps deal-makers and strategy teams think systemically to create new strategies for economic growth.
We are curious by nature, and we respect people who apply their minds. In a world where AI can produce a lot of plausible-sounding analysis very quickly, we believe the people who matter are the ones who think independently, notice what others miss, and back their own views.
Why we are hiring
Our consulting work is growing. We have a strong pipeline of strategy, organisational design and leadership projects with private and public sector clients, running into 2027, and we need experienced people to deliver it.
We are looking for a consultant who has learned the craft at a larger firm and now wants more of the work: closer to the client, closer to the decisions, and with a real hand in how a growing firm does things. Our client work increasingly draws on Furze, so we also want the people delivering our projects to help shape how the platform is used with clients.
Role purpose
You will deliver strategy and organisation design work for Firehills clients, running workstreams day to day, bringing Furze into live engagements where it adds value, and helping to build the consulting practice as it grows.
The role sits at the meeting point of three things we care about:
Client delivery — strategy, organisational design and leadership work that clients act on.
Technology — Furze, our AI platform, used on real engagements.
A growing practice — the methods, proposals and ways of working of a firm that is scaling.
Within your first year, you will have run workstreams across several client engagements, used Furze on live projects, and helped shape how a growing consultancy works. That is more ownership, and more variety, than most people get at this stage in a larger firm.
What you will do
Your work will fall across three connected areas.
1. Deliver client work across strategy, organisation design and leadership
Run workstreams on client engagements day to day, with a partner accountable for the overall project.
Structure problems, carry out research and analysis, and turn evidence into clear recommendations.
Assess organisational structures, operating models, processes and leadership arrangements, and help design what should change.
Build the storyline and write client-ready reports and presentations.
Facilitate workshops, run stakeholder interviews, and manage and build client relationships.
Translate strategy into practical plans that clients can act on.
2. Use Furze on live engagements, and help shape it
Bring Furze into client work where it strengthens the analysis.
Be the voice of the consultant user to the Furze product team: what works, what does not, and what clients need.
Judge whether what the platform produces is good enough to put in front of a client and say so when it is not.
Help the Firehills test continue to test, feedback and improve the quality of what Furze deliver.
3. Help build the practice
Spot follow-on opportunities and contribute to proposals and client conversations.
Cultivate relationships with clients that can lead to further work, converting opportunities as part of the overall Firehills team.
Help turn repeat work into reusable methods, tools and Firehills IP.
Share what you learn, and help shape how a small, growing firm works.
Who you are
You have a few years of consulting behind you, and you want more ownership and variety than a larger firm usually allows. We care less about where you have worked than about what you did there and how you think.
You are someone who:
Thinks independently and is willing to back your own view, even when it goes against the room.
Is happy to get stuck in. In a small firm the work doesn't come neatly packaged, and you will turn your hand to whatever the project, the client or the business needs.
Structures messy problems quickly and gets to the "so what".
Communicates clearly, in writing and in the room, with senior clients and non-specialists alike.
Is curious about how organisations, markets and technology connect.
Wants real ownership of real problems and is comfortable with the ambiguity that comes with that.
Essential requirements
Two or more years' experience delivering client work in a consultancy or professional services firm, including hands-on work on strategy, organisation design, operating model or transformation projects.
A strong undergraduate degree (2:1 or above), in any subject.
Strong analytical and research skills: able to structure an ambiguous problem, find and interpret evidence, and turn it into a clear recommendation.
Excellent written communication: able to build a storyline and write client-ready reports and presentations.
Confidence working directly with clients: running workshops and interviews and managing stakeholders.
Strong Excel and PowerPoint.
The right to work in the UK without sponsorship.
Preferred (but not required)
Experience gained at a mid-to-large consultancy (for example Big 4, a strategy or management consultancy, or a specialist people and organisation practice).
Financial modelling experience, for example business cases or cost and benefit modelling for organisational change.
A Master’s degree or MBA.
Exposure to leadership development work.
Interest in how AI is changing consulting and strategic decision-making.
Some awareness of complexity or systems thinking as an approach.
What working at Firehills is like
We are a small team but nimble and fast-moving. You will work directly with the partners of the firm, not through layers of management. What we offer instead is:
A real problem to solve, with a real outcome you can point to.
Direct access to the people running the firm, and the mentoring that comes with that.
Ownership of client work from early on, leading your own workstreams rather than supporting someone else’s.
A culture that values independent thinking over pedigree, and curiosity over credentials.
How to apply
Please send us two things:
· Your CV.
· A short cover letter. Tell us why this role interests you and why you think you would be good at it. Keep it short.
Please send this to lizzie.loizos@firehillsconsulting.com
Applications close three weeks after this advert is published.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a short call with one of the partners. If that goes well, the next stage is an interview where we talk through a piece of work you have delivered and work through a realistic client problem together. For the final stage, we will give you a short brief to prepare, taking no more than three hours, and ask you to present it back to us. It should feel like the job, not like an exam. We read every application properly, and we will get back to you.
