Furze Product Update: March 26

Depending on what your social media algorithm is like these days you’ll perhaps have seen posts and videos from influencers claiming to be able to build a £50k ARR app in 24 hours. Or that you can use the likes of base44 and Loveable to make a production ready application just with a few simple prompts.

You must have had something like that arrive in the last 12 months, right?

Well, I’m going to share that this is virtually all just marketing babble.

Yes, someone probably did it once, but to lead audiences to believe its possible for anyone to build a battle hardened application is just fantasy. Just one more subscription and you can be the new tech hero on the block.

The take away: real applications don’t get made with a single prompt. We’ve now submitted over 4000 prompts!

We are now 3 months into building Furze, and we are still steaming on. AI doing the lift, the team guiding and providing the quality. And because of this we are still on track for a spring beta release and accepting new users to come along and test our application in May. Keep reading to learn more about how to join….

Defining what Furze is

No doubt this is where technology comes unstuck and it just blends into the background of a crowded existing market. Nothing unique and ultimately no demand for it. The Firehills team has been spending much time in March improving our vocabulary around how to express its value and most importantly to define a new category of technology. To which, (we hope) we have no competitors and that we have a very clear value proposition for our target customers. So that is clear and obvious what we do and how we do it. That’s our goal to all.

Our first work for this has been publicly posted on our brand-new website. See the next chapter to learn more about that.

New Website: firehills.io

Matt and myself often jibbed each other about getting a .io domain and what signals that says about ourselves. When I looked up what we could secure this was a pretty easy yes, we bought this over 6 months ago so it’s great to see it alive and serving its purpose.

Our new website is our v1 for all things value proposition, how Furze delivers value and also to learn about how Furze is unified with Firehills as a brand. We’re proud of this starting point and all feedback is welcome. Drop me an email: rob@firehills.io

Getting production ready

This has been a learning experience, but one which was even easier than would have been 10 years ago. We’ve provisioned Furze on Vercel and Supabase, namely because of the turnkey way to you can migrate your code base to make a production application. But some 10-15 years ago this would have been weeks if not months of work setting up separate pieces of infrastructure. Now all done at the import of a GitHub repo. But this is a signal to show we are getting ready to open the front door to our first test users in the very near future.

A big thank you to Michael Davis our founding engineer for a smooth kick off.

If you made it this far, well done! Another update coming in April.

All the best, Rob and the Firehills Team
